Far-InfraRed Spectral Explorer
FIRSPEX
FIRSPEX
FIRSPEX is a proposed mission for the ESA M5 call, and is designed to carry out an an all-sky spectroscopic survey operating in the Supra-THz (>1 THz) frequency range.
FIRSPEX will deliver, for the first time, unique high resolution full 3D maps of infrared sky providing the spectroscopic counter part to the large photometric surveys of the Galactic plane carried out by the Herschel Space Observatory.
FIRSPEX will Study the physics of the ISM in our Galaxy, nearby and intermediate redshift Universe, linking the local Universe (as seen by Herschel) to high-z Universe (as seen by ALMA).
There is currently no spectroscopic equivalent to the Herschel continuum survey of the Galactic Plane
FIRSPEX fulfills this requirement
